Last week, Boccia England hosted a successful performance camp in Newbury on Monday 18 May 2026 at Northcroft Leisure Centre.
Fourteen athletes attended the full-day camp, which focused on both personal development and on-court performance.
The morning session was delivered by Isaac Porter, a valued member of the TASS family who has been keen to support Boccia England for some time. Isaac led an engaging workshop centred around culture and values within performance teams, as well as strategies for planning and succeeding in competitive environments. With a number of new and emerging athletes progressing through the pathway, reinforcing these core values remains an important part of athlete development.
Isaac also stayed on for the afternoon practical session, which focused on skills development and was led by Barry Bowden alongside Under-23 Talent Coach Lauren K.
The camp was hosted by Northcroft Leisure Centre, part of the Everyone Active group. Everyone Active has been a long-term partner of Boccia England, supporting the growth of boccia opportunities across leisure centres throughout the UK.
As part of the long-term partnership with each site, hosting camps in new venues leaves a lasting legacy, with replacement boccia equipment gifted to centres to support future local activity. Boccia England’s Partnership and Engagement Manager, Stacey, has also been working closely with the centre to help establish regular boccia sessions moving forward.
Stacey first connected with Callum Yates (Health and Wellbeing Manager) at an Everyone Active networking event, where she delivered an introductory boccia session. Following the session, Callum expressed a strong interest in the sport and was keen to explore how boccia could be implemented within the leisure centre.
Following the hub, Stacey and Callum have remained in regular contact to discuss how boccia can continue to grow at the centre on a more consistent basis. Boccia England will also be providing equipment to support the centre’s ongoing development, with the partnership expected to continue growing over the long term and establish the venue as an important facility for future boccia activity and development opportunities.
Speaking about the partnership, Callum Yates, Everyone Active Health and Wellbeing Manager, said:
“Seeing such a successful Boccia performance camp with so many engaged athletes at Northcroft Leisure Centre was fantastic, and really highlights the appetite there is for the inclusive sport in the UK. We’re proud of our long-term partnership with Boccia England and hope to support many more opportunities to access Boccia at Northcroft Leisure Centre, including launching a new Boccia session very soon.”
